COVID-19 has impacted our health, livelihoods and the way our systems work. 2 million jobs could be lost forever because of the pandemic, with 1 million of these lost over the next two years - but mass unemployment is not inevitable.

There is a way to build back better. One that will protect our communities and our planet now and into the future.

The government has an opportunity to put a downpayment on our future and invest in a new green economy.  A green economy can create millions of jobs immediately, strengthen our key services, and help us to fight climate breakdown.

Join us to call on the Prime Minister to protect us now while investing in our future.

The Bank of England has predicted that the number of people unemployed could reach 11.3% by the end of 2020. As many as 2 million jobs could be permanently lost due to the pandemic.

Research and reports published by the Build Back Better Coalition, the New Economics Foundation, the Trade Union Congress and others show we can avoid a huge and ongoing crisis of unemployment, by investing in the green economy and creating jobs that sustain our communities in key sectors.

This means investment in public services, health and social care, and infrastructure, all low carbon industries that will help the transition to a zero-carbon economy.

As winter approaches, and millions of people face the threat of unemployment after the latest round of furlough ends, it is essential that the government steps up to prevent the worst consequences of this crisis.
